70mm Skirting Board FAQs
Is 70mm a standard skirting board height?
Yes. 70mm is the lowest of our standard heights, which run from 70mm to 400mm. In the trade it is usually sold as 3 inch.
How many mm is a 3 inch skirting board?
In UK joinery, 3 inch is a nominal trade name rather than an exact measurement. The board sold as 3 inch is finished at 70mm, about 2¾ inches (2.76 inches), a little under a true 3 inches (76mm). If you have searched for a 3 inch skirting board, 70mm is the size you want. For an exact imperial height, we can cut bespoke sizes to order.
Which profiles come in 70mm?
Most of our MDF profiles come in 70mm, including our Bullnose, Square, Chamfer, Ogee and Torus designs. Some deeper or more detailed profiles start at 95mm or 120mm. This page shows only the profiles you can order at 70mm.
What rooms suit a 70mm skirting board?
70mm suits modern and minimalist interiors, smaller rooms and lower ceilings, where you want the skirting to stay discreet. In rooms with a standard 2.4m ceiling, skirting between 95mm and 145mm is more usual. Our skirting board height guide compares the sizes by ceiling height.
Is 70mm too short, or should I go taller?
It depends on the look you want. 70mm gives a clean, minimal finish. For more presence at the floor, a taller board often sits better. Our 95mm skirting boards are the next size up, and 120mm skirting boards are a popular mid-height.
What thickness, lengths and finishes are available?
Every 70mm board comes in 25mm thickness, and most profiles also come in 18mm and 15mm. The thickness options on each product show what that profile offers. Lengths are 3050mm and 4200mm. Choose unprimed, primed or undercoated for painting, or a painted Matt Grey or Satin Black finish, with an optional rebate for pipes and cables. Prefer real timber? Our Pine range includes a closely matched 69mm. Every board is made to order in our Birmingham factory from moisture-resistant MDF.
