145mm Skirting Board FAQs
Is 145mm the most popular skirting board height?
145mm is our most-ordered skirting height. It works well with the standard 2.4m ceilings found in most UK homes and suits both modern and traditional interiors. Our skirting board height guide explains how to choose by ceiling height.
How many mm is a 6 inch skirting board?
In UK joinery, 6 inch is a nominal trade name rather than an exact measurement. The board sold as 6 inch is finished at 145mm, about 5¾ inches (5.71 inches), a little under a true 6 inches (152mm). If you have searched for a 6 inch skirting board, 145mm is the size you want.
Is skirting 5 or 6 inches?
Both sizes are common. A 5 inch skirting board is 120mm and a 6 inch board is 145mm. 120mm gives a slightly lower line, while 145mm frames the room with a little more height. If you want the lower option, see our 120mm skirting boards.
Do you make a 150mm skirting board?
Our closest standard height to 150mm is 145mm, which is 5mm lower. If you need exactly 150mm, for example to match existing skirting, we can cut bespoke sizes to order.
Should I choose 145mm or a different height?
It comes down to ceiling height and the look you want. As a rough guide, ceilings of about 2.4m to 2.7m suit skirting between 145mm and 195mm. For a lower line, our 120mm skirting boards may suit better, and for higher ceilings our 170mm skirting boards step up again.
What thickness, lengths and finishes are available?
Every 145mm board comes in 25mm thickness, and most profiles also come in 18mm and 15mm. The thickness options on each product show what that profile offers. Lengths are 3050mm and 4200mm. Choose unprimed, primed or undercoated for painting, or a painted Matt Grey or Satin Black finish, with an optional rebate for pipes and cables. Prefer real timber? Our Pine range includes a closely matched 144mm. Every board is made to order in our Birmingham factory from moisture-resistant MDF.
