A 170mm skirting board gives you a tall, statement profile that suits period properties, high-ceilinged rooms and modern homes that want a bolder finish at the floor. The extra height covers more of the wall and keeps proportions right in larger spaces, where a 70mm to 120mm board might not suit. In the joinery trade it is often sold as a 7 inch skirting board, although the true height is 170mm (about 6¾ inches).

Yes. 170mm is one of our standard MDF skirting board heights, available across every profile we make, from contemporary Bullnose and Square through to traditional Ogee and Torus. Our standard heights run from 70mm up to 400mm, and at 170mm you're at the taller end, which is why it's a popular choice for period homes and rooms with higher ceilings.

How many mm is a 7 inch skirting board?

In UK joinery, 7 inch is a nominal trade name, not the exact measurement. The board sold as 7 inch is finished at 170mm, about 6¾ inches (6.69 inches), just under a true 7 inches (178mm). So if you have searched for a 7 inch skirting board, 170mm is the size you want. For a precise imperial size, or a height we don't list as standard, we can cut bespoke heights to order.

What rooms suit a 170mm skirting board?

Taller skirting suits rooms with higher ceilings, hallways, and period properties such as Victorian and Edwardian homes, where a short board can look out of proportion. The extra height covers more of the wall and gives a more substantial finish. In smaller rooms with standard 2.4m ceilings, a 120mm to 145mm board often sits more comfortably.

Our standard heights either side are 170mm and 195mm. If you need exactly 175mm or 180mm, for example to match existing skirting, we can cut bespoke heights to order.

What thickness, lengths and finishes are available?

Every 170mm board comes in 25mm thickness, and most profiles also come in 18mm and 15mm. The thickness options on each product show what that profile offers. Lengths are 3050mm and 4200mm. Choose unprimed, primed or undercoated for painting, or a painted Matt Grey or Satin Black finish, with an optional rebate for pipes and cables. Prefer real timber?
