Architrave
Architraves - 100 Designs To Choose From
Here at Skirting World, we manufacture architrave (sometimes referred to as door facings) to suit your needs. From lengths to sets - we have everything you need to surround your doors in style. Whether you need them wider than normal or you need a design custom making to match what you already have installed at home - we've got you covered.
You'll be sure to choose the right decorative moulding from our extensive range - with over 100 designs of door architrave to choose from, there's something for every home. We also have a range of matching skirting boards too if you want to continue the look around the room.
Our Architraves Are All Manufactured Right Here
We make all our door architrave from scratch - everything is cut, machined and sprayed in house! We are able to make any of the designs from either MDF, HDF or Pine and our highly experienced team custom make them from start to finish.
Once your order is placed, we begin to manufacture it. Maybe you order 18 pieces of architrave in MDF - 70mm x 18mm x 2440mm, all primed, Ogee design. Several sheets of MDF are taken from stock at the following size - 18mm thick, 1220mm wide and 2440mm long. Then the boards are cut into several pieces at 70mm wide until we have the 18 that you have ordered.
Next, we apply your chosen design to each board. This process involves removing material from the boards using our specialist machinery (either a moulder or spindle) and the Ogee style cutting tools. Great care is taken by the expert machinist to ensure that no damage is done to the boards or machine and the design comes out just as it should.
Because you've chosen to have the door architrave primed, our in house french polisher takes hold of the boards next. A professional spray gun is used to add 2 coats of primer to the front face, top edge and bottom edge of the boards (these are the parts that are visible once the boards are installed). To ensure a tidy and smooth application of primer, the boards are hand sanded in between coats. After the second layer has been applied, the boards are left to dry. A denibbing machine handles the rest of the sanding when everything is dry and makes the primed surfaces of all the boards smooth so that the final layer of paint can be applied easily (if you choose to do this during installation).
The final step - our wrapping team make sure the order is suitable for transportation. Cardboard edge protection and shrink wrap are used together to ensure the finished architraves arrive at your door in the condition we sent them (immaculate!) so that you can install them straight away.
MDF Is Becoming Increasingly Popular
MDF is now the most popular material of choice when customers order architraves, but our HDF option is proving to popular too. If you're going for a more traditional look, we also use Pine to create our architraves. MDF and HDF are the materials we recommend (cheaper, more durable, higher quality finish) but if it's a real wood effect you're looking to achieve, Pine is the material you need to choose. The knots and imperfections are all treated as best as possible and most customers using Pine are generally looking to stain the boards instead of painting them to achieve the final finish.
MDF architraves are, without doubt, cheapest option on our website but don't let the price fool you into thinking the quality will be any lower than the other materials on offer. The MDF we source is of the highest quality which is easy to work with and durable so you can be sure that the finished product will look professional and consistent.
Choose From Our Standard Thicknesses Or Enquire About Something Different!
We are able to produce architraves in various thicknesses - our standard sizes are 15mm, 18mm and 25mm. However, if you're looking for something much thicker, we are able to get our hands on various sizes really quickly. 30mm and 38mm are the most common sizes we get asked about (and manufacture). If what you're looking for is all in one piece (with older properties, we see a lot of boards that have been made out of several pieces), the maximum thickness we have produced is 50mm! Some customers think our standard sizes are too thick for their home so they ask if we can manufacture thinner pieces? Of coure, just drop us a line and we'll go through it with you.
Tall Doors? We've Got You Covered...
We offer architraves in 2100mm (Pine only), 2440mm, 3050mm and 4200mm! All of our lengths are all manufactured from our moisture resistant HDF boards.
Choose From 100 Modern & Traditional Designs
Our range has increased from just over 70 profiles to 100 profiles. That means we have almost 30 brand new designs unique to ourselves!
Whether you're looking for a traditional design with intricate detail or a sleek and modern profile that's easy to clan - we've got you covered. Within the UK, a large home normally has grand doorways resulting in detailed and wide architraves. In a smaller and newer home, we've found that the they are usually slimmer and plain in comparison.
Architraves can be purely decorative. However, they are normally used to cover messy and uneven areas around doors and windows.
We Also Manufacture Architrave Sets
We've made it easier to know how much you need to order by selling architrave in sets as well as lengths. All you need to know is how many door frames you need to cover and if you're doing both sides of each door (front and back).
Once you've worked this out, you can order sets to suit. One of our single sets will cover one side of a single doorway. Should you need to do both sides, order two of them. One of our double sets will cover one side of a double doorway. Should you need to do both sides, order two of these sets.
