Our skirting board calculator is designed to help you accurately estimate the amount of skirting board needed for your project. Follow these steps to get the most out of this tool:
- Choose between 'Total Length' or 'Room by Room' calculation methods.
- For 'Total Length', simply enter the total measurement of all walls requiring skirting.
- For 'Room by Room', add rooms and walls as needed, inputting individual wall lengths.
- Select your preferred unit of measurement (mm, cm, m, ft, or in).
- Click 'Calculate' to see your results.
Understanding Skirting Board Lengths
We offer skirting boards in two standard lengths:
- 3050mm: Ideal for most standard room sizes, minimising joints.
- 4200mm: Perfect for larger rooms or when fewer joints are desired.
The calculator will recommend the most efficient option based on your measurements, helping to minimise wastage.
Additional Considerations
- Obstructions: Account for doorways, built-in furniture, and other obstacles that may reduce the required skirting length. - You can also choose to ignore obstructions, this will save time spent calculating, and the additional material can be used as wastage.
- Corners: For internal corners, measure to the full corner. For external corners, add a small allowance for mitre cuts.
- Wastage: We recommend adding 10% extra to your total length to account for cuts, mistakes, and wastage.
- Doors: The primary obstruction for skirting boards is doors, the width of the door + the width of architrave x the number of doors will indicate the length of void areas. You can measure one door and the architrave widths on either side and multiply by the total number of doors to simplify this calculation.
Tips for Accurate Measurement
- Use a reliable tape measure and measure at the height where the skirting will be installed.
- Measure each wall individually for the most accurate results.
- Double-check your measurements to avoid costly mistakes.
- Consider using a laser measure for large or complex rooms.
By following these guidelines and using our calculator, you'll be well-prepared to order the correct amount of skirting board for your project. Remember, it's always better to have a bit extra than to fall short!
