Est. 2011 - Birmingham, UK

The UK's Largest Independent Interior Trims Manufacturer & Supplier

Everything is made to order in our own facility. We don't hold stock - when you place an order, we make it. This approach lets us offer over 100 profiles across a wide range of sizes and finishes without the limitations of pre-made inventory.

From a single room's worth of skirting to large commercial fit-outs, we supply tradespeople, homeowners, contractors, and interior specialists across the UK. The same manufacturing standards apply regardless of order size.

Our Facility

Gravelly Industrial Park, Birmingham

Our current premises houses the complete manufacturing operation - from raw MDF sheets through to finished, primed boards ready for dispatch. We moved here in early 2020, having outgrown two previous locations as production capacity increased.

The factory runs multiple moulding machines, a beam saw for precision cutting, both manual spray booths and an automatic spray line for primer application, plus dedicated sanding and finishing stations.

We also operate our own delivery fleet - with over 20 vehicles - having started with just two vans. Running our own logistics means proper handling for long-length boards and reliable coverage across the UK mainland.

How It Started

Founded in 2011

Skirting Worlds founders had extensive backgrounds in wood machining - the practical knowledge of how to manufacture mouldings was already there before the business existed. At the time, there were very few online retailers focused specifically on skirting and architrave, which presented an opportunity.

The first workshop was modest: one moulder, one spindle moulder, one spray booth, and around seven staff. Production capacity grew as demand grew, expanding machinery, finishing capability, and eventually the delivery operation.

Today, we produce thousands of lengths every day across over 100 profiles, with a team and facility that would be unrecognisable to anyone who saw the original setup.

Manufacturing

How we turn MDF sheet into skirting boards

Material

We use moisture-resistant MDF throughout - specifically high-density fibreboard manufactured from softwood fibres. It machines cleanly, holds intricate profiles without chipping, and takes paint without grain raise. Unlike natural timber, there are no knots, splits, or density variations to work around (we also offer Pine skirting boards).

Profile cutting

Profiles are cut using multi-head moulding machines that shape the board in a single pass. Each profile has dedicated tooling. The beam saw handles length cutting with precision that manual cutting can't match, particularly important for longer boards.

Finishing

Primed and undercoated finishes go through our spray line with sanding between coats. The automatic line handles volume; the manual booths handle specialist work and smaller runs. A denibbing machine gives the final surface its smoothness before packing.

Bespoke profiles

Custom work requires custom tooling. Customers send samples, drawings, or photographs of the profile they need. We assess whether it's producible, create the tooling, and manufacture. Common for matching existing mouldings in period properties or achieving specific architectural details.

Wall panelling from the same factory

After introducing panel mouldings to the Skirting World range, demand for wall panelling products grew enough to warrant a dedicated site. Wall Panels World launched in November 2023.

MDF panel mouldings and panelling strips are manufactured in-house using the same processes. We also stock PVC bathroom panels and acoustic slat panels from selected suppliers.
