    What Is Door Architrave?

    A door architrave is an interior decorative moulding installed around a door or used around a window. They can hide joints and uneven surfaces between the wall and the door frame, as well as adding character to the room. They are usually available in a wide array of materials with the most popular being MDF, followed by softwood.

     

    Door Architrave Sets & Lengths

    We allow you to purchase architrave as single lengths or complete door sets. A single architrave set includes 2 lengths at 2440mm to be used as the upright ‘legs’ (left and right sides of the doorway) and 1 length at 1220mm to be used as the ‘head’ across the top of the doorway. This will completely cover one face of a door. A double set is almost identical to a single with the only difference being that the ‘head’ length is 2440mm – it will cover one face of a double door frame. Should the sets not work for your project, you can also purchase single architrave lengths which are available in 2440mm, 3050mm and 4200mm.

    Architrave FAQ

    Architrave is a decorative moulding that is used to frame doors, windows, and other openings. It covers the gap between the wall and the door or window frame and helps to protect the wall from damage.

    To fit architrave around a door, first measure the length of the sides and top of the door frame. Cut the architrave to the appropriate length and angle to fit around the frame. Use wood glue and nails to fix the architrave in place.

    The amount of architrave needed per door depends on the size of the door and the design of the architrave. Measure the length and width of the door frame and use those measurements to calculate the amount of architrave needed, adding an additional 10-20% to allow for waste and cutting.

    To remove architrave without damaging the plaster, use a utility knife to score along the edge of the architrave where it meets the wall. Then use a pry bar to gently pry the architrave away from the wall.

    Architrave can be used as skirting, but it is not typically designed for that purpose. Skirting is a wider, flatter moulding that is used to protect the base of the wall from damage.
